How can we help you? You give a generic problem description, with no error message(s), or anything describing your situation. Kind of like saying "I drive a Chevy, and it won't move...help"...just a bit vague.

Has it EVER worked? Have you changed anything? Installed anything new? What kind of hardware is your PC and USB flashdrive? Please post the output of lsusb and lspci, too.

Hi TB0ne,

Thank you for your reply. You are correct my description was lacking. I'll try to be more to the point. My flashdrives used to work just fine. Last Wednesday my machine stopped recognizing them suddenly & w/o warning. All my other USB hardware still works fine. I tested the flashdrives in another machine with WIN XP on it. They worked just fine. I checked the Ubuntu Linux "Bible" by Bill Von Hagen but his solution didn't work. System-preferences-removable media-storage. I noticed there was no storage tab. I compared my screen to the book's & there are differences. Again thank you for your help. DAS

try # fdisk -l (while your USB is plugged in) and post what you see. Also, you still haven't posted lsusb & lspci. please do.
thanks

I agree with ceantuco, the lsusb and lspci are helpful. But SOMETHING had to have happened last Wednesday. Did any updates run that day? Do anything out of the ordinary? Power failure/flicker?

And I know you've probably tried it...but have you power-cycled the machine?
