USB flash drive open banshee and NOT nautilus. Help with reverting back to nautilus.
Hi all,
Firstly apologies for the silly question. My GUI abilities are still sound with Linux.
As stated in the subject. When i insert a flash drive into my laptop banshee opens. This is probably due to the fact that i recently run banshee and imported some music files from my external hdd about 2 days ago. However when inserting flash drives or external devices my laptop automatically open the banshee and not nautilus as it used to do in the past.
I have tried to fiddle a little but i rather ask then completely break something.
If you require any more information please let me know.

rest assured that it's not a silly question. Simple, maybe, but not silly.

Well, I'd rather have nothing happen when I insert a media, and the most versatile application (a file manager, for instance Nautilus) is open all the time anyway.
But yes ... Just open Nautilus, go to Edit/Preferences/Media. Here you can choose what should happen automatically, if anything at all, when a certain media is connected.
Just search for the default applications and change what happens when you insert an external drive to always ask every time. That way whenever you insert anything, you'll get a pop-up notification asking what to do rather than have even nautilus open every time.
Without knowing Banshee... It should have a setting in Banshee that you UNCHECK to stop Banshee from setting itself as the default application.
Otherwise it will, every time you use Banshee.
Some specialized loaders were written such that they fail if they are not the default app.
(Camera loader)
Some desktop managers have other "accessories" that presume that the last thing you did
should done again. This is vague because I do not know what new accessory they might have inflicted upon us now, and I have avoided them. Find them and turn them off (I don't know what or where in Gnome).
KDE is getting more obnoxious in that regard. The blame for this should be firmly on the desktop developers (or maybe in this case, Banshee), who in trying to help a few, have setup a trap for the unwary.
It is wrong for casual use of a device to change the permanent default settings without asking.
