Unhappy USB device in Mepis

HI,
I obviously have a problem otherwise I would not be posting here its driving me around the bend.
Although I have been using Linux for a few years, when ever there is a problem I tend to just get my dad to fix it and now im at uni and all on my own

Ok the Problem
> I have a Canon IXUS i7 digital camera and when ever I plug it into my Linux system (mepis) it reconises that its there (YAY) with a pop up window and asks me what I want to do.

> So I click open in new window hoping to get a folder with all my images in it.

BUT no, OH no

>I get a folder which proves that mepis knows a CAMERA is conected via the USB port.

>I click, Then it glitches, Loads, another foler with exactly the same name over and over

system:/media/camera/camera/camera/camera/camera (FOREVER)

> This problem only happens with my digtal camera, Mepis has always reconised CDs and DVDs when inserted into the computer

Has any one had this problem?
and can they help me fix it?
PLEASE

Nattikins

Google using "canon ixus mepis" Some of the hits look promising.

I find it easier to simply connect a USB card reader and grab files that way.
