I would assume that you are using YaST to do online updates. For online updates, you don't need to login anywhere. SuSE ftp sites don't require a login. You can do this in Yast 2 ways:
1. Do an online update, choose site close to you and select what you want to update or
2. Add a SuSE ftp site as an online source in Yast and then go to add/remove software - here you can install all the packages that you want.

Hope this helps

Suse 9.3

I have Suse 9.3 Pro and I can't seem to update it, always getting an error "Unable to connect to host" or something along them lines. I am running on a wlan and can connect to the lan acces the router and modem, but when i try to access pages it can sometimes be slow but generally OK, and i also can't login to Kopete. Am I being a complete noob or what? Had Suse 9.2 without wlan and could update that through same router with cat5.

I've updated several machines with 9.3 and no problems. Perhaps the mirror your hitting is just too busy, or down right now?

Re; SuSe 9.3 Pro Updates

SuSe has SuSe Watch which can alert you of all updates. Or, you can open Yast and do your update but make sure you have a server selected from the mirrors provided within Yast. Its a drop down menu for selecting the servers so if one is busy select another one.
