Question Updating Kernel ???

Hi everyone

Recently I download new kernel 2.6.0 and want to update my current kernel 2.4.18 on Red Hat 8.0

I given the following commands,

mv /home/user.ahmed/linux-2.6.0.tar.bz2 /usr/src/linux-2.6.0.tar.gz"
cd usr/src/
tar -xfvj linux-2.6.0.tar.bz2
ln -s /usr/src/linux-2.6.0 /usr/src/linux
cd /usr/src/linux

every thing go fine till here, but when I issue the following command

make menu config

I get the following messages

Makefile:391: .config: No such file or directory
make[1]: Nothing to be done for `Makefile'.
Makefile:391: .config: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `menu'. Stop.
make: *** [menu] Error 2

What is wrong with the above commands. Please help me.

Thanx

Hi!

'menuconfig' is one word.

You could also try 'make xconfig' to get a slick point-and-click UI.

Good luck!
