Uninstall MYSQL completely then reinstall....help!

Can someone please help me.
MYSQL has stopped letting me log in, have tried the reset password procedure I found, but that does not work. I now wish to completely uninstall it and start again from scratch.
Can someone please tell me how to do this in Slackware 12.
I have removed it from pkgtool, but it will not let me reinstall it.

Thanks

Hi, welcome to LQ!

Have a look at the content of the package, using tar.
tar -tvf /path/to/mysql*tgz

Check which of the files mentioned in there still exists.

If you're certain you want to get rid of everything (you
may loose data if you delete all directories it mentions)
delete relevant left-overs manually.

Cheers,
Tink

Luckily there is no important data in the database.

Managed to get it reinstalled by stopping the processes and deleting the var/lib/mysql/ folder.

Thanks
