unable to start mysql services


I lost power while accessing mysql services,after rebooting I can not restart the service.The error in the mysqld.log file; FATAL error;cant open and lock privilege tables:incorrect file format 'host'.
thanks for the help in advance

This is not really a "newbie" question, and the thread would probably be more at home in the "Linux - Server" forum.

If you type the exact error message into Google, you'll find that the fix involves backing up your database files, clearing out the entire database directory and running mysql_install_db to regenerate the missing/corrupt system database. You can then copy your database files back.

You'll have to add back all user privileges manually, but they're gone now anyway.

Did you try a quick google search?


There are a few ways to fix this. You can do the mysql_install_db to reinstall the hosts or you can start mysqld with skip grant and try a repair on the table, which will more than likely delete all the users in it and you will just need to add them back in.
