unable to print file: server-error-service-unavailable

Hi!

I'm trying to set up printing over ip network but can't get it to work.

If I write lp -d Canon -h 198.162.0.3 file the printing works from everywhere BUT

if I write lpr -P ipp://198.162.0.3/Canon file
or lpr -P ipp://198.162.0.3/printers/Canon I get an error message
or lpr -P lpd://198.162.0.3(/printers)/Canon I get an error message saying: unable to print file: server-error-service-unavailable

What is wrong?

I have to get the lpr command to work, because all programs use lpr instead of lp

Try editing /etc/cups/cupsd.conf and change loglevel to debug. Restart cups so it reads the file again and then it should be more verbose in its error log (which may be /var/log/cups/error_log). Hopefully it'll give you a clue what the problem is.

if you are using cupsd; make sure you have X11 libary installed.
