Unable to lock the administration directory (Ubuntu)

Hello,
Here are the facts: When i left home this morning i left my UBUNTU linux running and i think i left the update manager open. Now i get the error listed below and i presume it's becouse of that, how can i kill the manager at home ( i'm now connecting remotely on ssh as root)
When i try apt-get update i get:
Error:
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

Thanks.
