I very much doubt if you would want to create a new directory inside your boot directory, which is what your image displays, and you would have to become root to do it. It should however be easy to create a directory inside your home directory.

With most desktops, a right-click on space inside the file manager is all you need. Or open a terminal and type
Code:
mkdir whatever-name

The three icons at the top of the menu (above "Undo Rename") are (from left to right) new window, new tab and new folder - so it's that third one. I feel like the icons could do with labels or tooltips, as I never know which does what.

You can also hit Ctrl+Shift+N in Files to create a new folder.

Where is that magic icon to click with the mouse?

Just look at the picture you sent. Look for the text Undo Rename near the upper right corner. You will find 3 icons above it.
