Dear All,

I have a problem with doing network on a ubuntu dapper drake Desktop.
(Linux hanif-desktop 2.6.15-26-386)

I want to share files from my ubuntu for WinXP and vice versa
Also i am not able to ping from both side.

I am new to linux, can anybody help me.

to share files your going to need samba..

should do the trick, from there check out the samba userguides on how to configure it and more importantly how to use it. If you have specific problems with that, then post logs/errors etc

but in order for samba to work, you need to make sure your PCs can both see each other

Can you post the IP addresses of each machine?

in the linux command prompt type ifconfig, and in the windows command prompt type ipconfig /all

Firstly, Dapper Drake is an older release - I think the latest is Gusty Gibbon (or Heretic Heron - *har har*). I recommend trying a more recent version before proceeding.

Linux IP is eth0 192.168.2.100 255.255.255.0
XP IP is 192.168.2.101 255.255.255.0

i have not downloaded anything yet as mentioned by you but i will do it right now please help me in this.

Also i have modified my smb.conf file in the /etc/samba folder, which i saw from these help forums

i have 1 win2000 adv server acting as ADS server and its IP is 192.168.2.254 255.255.255.0
from 2000server i get request timed out when i ping to ubuntu

My win network is fine, just i want to add this ubuntu to my windows domain network and use it as normal client.
how can i do this please let me know
