ubuntu 9.04 crash gui


dear sir

i have been using long time ubuntu but suddenly i face some problem

now it start in bash/command line mode

where it say disk inconsistancy. enter the root password to fixed. but the case i dont know root password as i always use sudo and issue commands.

now even sudo command not working.

then it says enter inside maintenance mode and check the disk

my disk is ide /dev/sda5

i dont know what to do next step how to over come this issues. the graphic interface never start.

ur support great help to us we are beginner of ubuntu linux

you can try booting with some other live cd and try to check partition from there with fsck command

If you get this resolved, Please set a root password with sudo passwd as sometimes it may be required and will save you hassle later.

crash disk

I don't want to be alarmist but how old is your disk? Check for bad blocks and if they exist use the bits (no pun) that are ok.
