ubuntu 7.04 + beryl + kiba dock dvd players do not work

Hello, I'm running Ubuntu 7.05 with Beryl and Kiba dock. My video card is a Radeon 9800 series. For some reason, my DVDs will not play whether I am running Beryl or not. All I get is mostly static for sound and sometimes a garbled screen with Totem, and nothing at all with VLC. I know I have all of the nececssary codecs installed, yet for some reason I get no output. I've tried changing the video output to X11, and OpenGL, and I still get nothing. DVDs play fine on my XP partition.

any suggestions or ideas?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
