That release is almost six years old, and Ubuntu has changed quite a bit since then (plus, very old distributions have to be "hardened" if they are to be made secure for Internet use --- and I doubt you'll want to spend much time trying to do that, when you can simply get a newer version).
If you upgrade to a newer release, you'll be more likely to receive help: most folk on the forum will be using newer distributions, therefore helping you will be far easier for them if you're running the same thing that they're running!
The latest release of Ubuntu can be freely downloaded
here or --- if you haven't got a fast enough connection or a CD burner --- a free CD ordered
here (although you'll probably have to wait a long time for it to arrive). Try installing one of these newer versions and then, if you still have difficulties, post your problem here.
