Ubuntu 18.04 LTS not working on my MSI EX460 laptop

I am a newbie in this linux thing... Though I have been in and out of Ubuntu years ago to try it out. Right now, I plan to install one in my laptop but when I try Ubuntu 18.0 LTS it stops where the screen is just plain "violet". No icons but I see my mouse pointer moving when I move around my mouse.

Again, my laptop is MSI EX460. Is there any tried and tested Linux OS for my laptop model? If none, is there any program or site that I can go to check for compatible linux OS for my laptop?

Thanks.

You might want to take a look at this LQ thread: https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ps-4175646276/

The "violet" (or purple) screen sounds like the normal Ubuntu splash during the first phase of the boot process.
Are you trying to boot Linux into live mode or go directly to the installer or have you tried both?

Did you verify the integrity (md5sum) of the *.iso that you are using?
