Which printer? Have you tried Add printer wizard? Is the printer locally connected or is it network printer? Some more information please.

Just got one of these printers, myself ....
installed ok, BUT keeps installing ! - under Mint Gloria.
each time the pc is re-booted & the printer is turned on.
Dunno why.

also got the scanner to work by getting "Imagescan, from the Avasys site".

A few suggestions ... you will probably have to Google a lot,
and may be find some solution.

Google .. epson stylus tx110 linux ..
http://rapid4me.com/?q=epson+stylus+...iver+for+linux

Also found, that win XP uses the same driver ( 6.61 E )
for both TX 110 and TX 550 W. May be similar in Linux too.

http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Drivers/Gutenprint.shtml
>> TX110 supported by "gutenprint-5.2.5"

You can also run the Ubuntu 9.10 live Linux cd, set up the printer,
and have a look in /etc/cups/ppd/ .. to trace the used driver.

There are no gutenprint packages for EL 5, but I remember 5.2.4
as very easy to build ..
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...rint-753933/#2

# yum install cups-devel

The Fedora 14 gutenprint-5.2.5-5.fc14.src.rpm is required
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...5.fc14.src.rpm
cd rpms/SOURCE/
rpm2cpio gutenprint-5.2.5-5.fc14.src.rpm | cpio -idmv
cd ../SPEC/ ,,, and copy the 5.2.4 file gutenprint-2el5.spec.txt here.
Ref. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...rint-753933/#2
( The new 5.2.5 file is buggy.) Please edit line 6 to : 5.2.5
Next : rpmbuild -bb gutenprint-2el5.spec

Setting up the rpmbuild account in /home/<username>/ ,,, post # 13:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...1-a-766486/#13

Alternatively try out my packages, 3.5 MB, 382 kB, 5.5 MB :
gutenprint gutenprint-cups gutenprint-foomatic. Send an email,
and I will attach packages to return mails.
.....

Like you can buy special scanner software = VueScan,
proprietary printer drivers are available : TurboPrint.
.....

Hello,

You're printer is supported in the latest version of Gutenprint (5.2.5). Check for and install the package cups-driver-gutenprint (5.2.5-0ubuntu1) using your package manager. Then you'll have the printer driver available for selection in CUPS and you'll be up and running in no-time.

Kind regards,

Eric

The Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid package will not fit Redhat EL 5.x,
I think.

But besides that, the gutenprint 5.2.5 is the first choice
to try out. And I can still supply the EL5 package(s).
