Question Trying to setup a low cpu cost distro for video app. No/limited os features

Hello experts,
I am currently trying to find a distribution to run a webcam/gstreamer/recording app and an onscreen keyboard. The goal is that on boot the two apps gui will come up in a specified place. The point is to lock the user into just the software because that is the only requirement for this project. I have looked into Damn Small Linux distro and was wondering if that was my best option or if there is a better distribution for this purpose. Any suggestions?

system specs - micro atx board/i5 cpu/2tb hdd/4gb ram
Thank you.

You certainly wouldn't need anything as bare-bones as DSL. With that hardware, you could run basically any distribution and there won't be any performance issues.

I would look into Debian or Slackware, as they offer excellent customization while avoiding a lot of the bloat that bogs down things like Ubuntu.
