Trying to rip my cd's with ripenc and dekagen

I am trying to use Ripenc and Dekagen to rip my cd collection. When I first downloaded the programs and tried them, they worked fine. But now, everytime I try to rip a cd I get the message "no encoding process running" and the programs dump me back into the main menu. I have Googled to see what I need to do to 'start' an encoding process but I can't find any information. Could anyone possibly point me in the right direction.

I've tried a couple of other programs but without much success. Grip needs Gnome2 and my poor old pII doesn't like heavy window managers.

Thanks very much for your attention.
