hi folks as above just installed ubuntu 8.10, when i plug the 3 modem zte mf 622in, ubuntu recognises it, installs it, allows me to edit the setting, but when i press connect, it runs for about 10sec. then a network is disconnected notice appears.

im wondering if its timing out before a connection is made as when using windows it sometimes takes 20 or 30 secs to connect

either that or im doing something very wrong

could any one advise me please
please talk to me as if im a backward 10 yo , as im very new to this and get out of my depth very quickly

I googled it and found some items. Not going to be 10yr help but might help you out. First I did not search the forums. Search for ' zte mf 622 '. If nothing here then search www.google.com/linux . Seems most have and issue that the usb storage module conflicts with it.

ive been through these sites and they seem to be about the system not recognising the modem as a modem. mine clearly recognises it as such, It flagged up it was installing it

when i right click on the network button it gives a menu of things, one of which is mobile broadband. this gives me the option of editing the setting. within this edit is clearly the 3 internet connection ##


It just will not connect

I’ve noticed that several Linux users had to activate their SIM on a Windows machine before using it. Have you tried this?

Looks like you need to get hooked up with Vodafone driver and be sure to always use the same USB port.

Hopefully this will set you on track... Let me know if you're still having trouble.
