Transfer of data to a usb stick

Where are you looking? What distro?

Open a command prompt, and run the command 'lsusb' without the quotes. Copy and paste the results here.

transfering files from windows to linux

+1 for samba. It's likely already installed, and exists for exactly this purpose.

Edit: just realized this is a 10yr old thread.
