Totaly new to SSL via apache (i want https to work)

Im completely new to wanting to setup a https. I have this bit:

Code:
<IfDefine SSL>
LoadModule ssl_module libexec/apache2/mod_ssl.so
</IfDefine>
in my httpd.conf and I have a ssl.conf as well (httpd.conf makes reference to it to include it) that has a Listen :443, etc. but scanning the machine running the server, 443 is not open/listening.

Other then the code snippet above, whats required to get apache to listen on 443 as well, using SSL?

Any newb guidlines on where to start would be great.

You probably need to create an SSL certificate for your server. Here's a reference showing how to make a certificate, install it in apache, and either have it signed by someone like Verisign or self-sign it.

Take a look in /etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf or otherwise look for ssl.conf around the apache directory. There's probably a virtual host in there you can use for setting up your ssl certificate once you get it registered. If you have trouble with that, just post your file here so we can see what you've got. May also want to let us know what apache version you're running. Do "apachectl -v" or /usr/sbin/httpd -v to find out.
