/tmp directory question

Can I treat the /tmp directory like temp directories in other OS's and periodically delete everything out of them?

The answer is yes but remember to do it at system start of just after it (we don't want to break running programs, right?)

Also, don't delete the entire directory itself. Since programs need to write to /tmp, if they're unable to find it, you'll have problems running said programs.
