Question text to graphics

I finally managed to boot up Mandrake Linux 9.1 after many hard hours! Alas it only boots into a sort of text mode and says:

[max@localhost]:

(or similar) Is this a text mode? Is there a way of getting into normal linux (graphical)?

Thanks to anyone who can give me an answer!!!
