System Rescue CD - failed to mount CD ROM

Need to create a partition from free space on hd. First, need to create some free space. HD already has win XP installed on NTFS partition. Need to install FC6 dual boot with XP.
To my understanding, the installers in the distros can't resize the NTFS partition, hence i need QTParted or GParted. I burnt the System Rescue CD ISO and it boots fine. However, it will not mount the CD ROM to run the utilities like QTParted. After entering the keymap it tries to mount the CD ROM but fails with:
/newroot/mnt/cdrom failed: No such file or directory

I've tried the following:
boot: fb640 ide=nodma
boot: fb640 nokeymap cdcache

I scoured the Sys Resc CD forums and found this same issue but absolutely no solutions, just open-ended problems.

Is this my HW or do i just need to try another partition utility? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Isn't QTParted a bootable CD?

If you really need to mount it, you might try killing the automounter and mount it manually using the mount command.

I'm following the instructions to use the System Rescue Cd that has QTParted on it. I just need QTParted, i can't get to the point to even "run_qtparted"... it seems like the CD ROM is not found... I'm not sure that i need to 'mount' the disc or not... but all the literature i come across seems very straightforward... boot sys rescue cd, press enter at boot: prompt, select keymap and then enter the "run_qtparted" command.
SO, am i missing something, is there another way to run QTParted?

I'm sorry. I misunderstood. I thought QTParted was on a different disk (which I now realize makes no sense ). I've never used this disk, but the error makes it sound like a bug on the disk. I am guessing run_qtparted is a script. If you are comfortable with reading scripts you can take a look at it and see if you can figure out what is going wrong. And maybe be the first to post a solution!

Otherwise you might want to just try the GParted live CD which you can download here. An article on how to use the GParted live CD is here.

Or, you can burn a KNOPPIX live CD (or live DVD), which contains QTParted. In this case you can access it from the menus. I have started QTParted on an older version of KNOPPIX w/o problem, although I didn't actually do anything with it. (I was just exploring!)
