I don’t know what happened

This is some of the error,

dev/hda2 contains a file system with errors, check forced.

Run fsck manually without -a or -p option.

an error accrued during the root file system check.

you will now be given a chance to log into the system in single user mode to fix the problem.

type control-d to proceed with normal startup..
(or give pass....)


And then it keeps restarting...

What Did I do wrong....?

you need to enter the root password and run fsck (the file system checker) as instructed. Hopefully that should solve your issues.

Thanks for replying DoubleOTeC, I was told that this has happened because I have shutdown my computer without first doing a clean unmount of my root file system, which is right(i have shutdown my PC on the wrong why) I was also told that to prevent such a thing it would be better to use journaling file system, I have used ext2.

what do you recomend, shall I make a new installation with journaling file system, will ext2 cause a lot of problems.

so the fsck didn't make a difference?

ext2 or ext3 should be fine.

I'm curious as to what filesystem you have installed.

I have made a new and fresh installation of slackware since I couldn’t fix the error.

I have used the ext2 file system but I was told that using journaling file system would be much better and would avoid such problems.

I would rather do the installation again now before anything wrong happens.

+ with this error even if I type my root password it won’t work, it will restart again and again.


So if I have to restart my computer not using the right way (using the force way) will this problem happen again... I don’t want to happen again.
