Suse 9.1 display problems

I recently installed suse pro 9.1 on my laptop. I have XP installed on the other partition. After I installed Suse, I tried to adjust the resolution from 800x600 to 1280x1024. After I applied the settings the screen displayed 3 overlapping desktops and the cursor was a big green square. I can not change the settings back either. Any help would be appreciated.

-Thanks

crtl-alt-f2, login as root, type init 3, login as root again, type sax2, reconfigure the display. then 'shutdown -r now' to reboot or 'init 5' to start the xserver.
