if i can't get redhat 9, or fc6, and i don't want kubuntu, i'll get suse. i've got suse 10.2 cd1 burnt, but when i try to get a network install i point it to download.opensuse.org for the ip address, and /distribution/10.2/iso/cd for the folder and it gives me an error saying HTTP network error: 302 Found. What does this mean and how do i fix it?

i've got a url that works, but i can't get suse to quit trying to use hda1 as a swap partition, i'm trying to install suse on hda1. i would really like it if some1 would add my to there yahoo(or msn live) and help me out, step by step. my yahoo is neo0x10.

Also, you are trying to use the wrong directory on the server.
The directory *should* be /pub/opensuse/distribution/10.2/repo/oss

And the info about opensuse.org servers is incorrect. Here's the real directory:
Open-source: /distribution/10.2/repo/oss/
Non Open-source (this will save you some problems later): /distribution/10.2/repo/non-oss/
For the non-oss, in one of the first install screens, you will be asked for additional install media. Enter these details for it.

And to answer your second question:
On the Install Overview screen, on the partitioning secontion, click the link. The installer lets you choose a custom setup. Have the installer format hda1 as ext3 and make sure you have a swap partition of at least the same size as your amount of RAM.
