Unhappy Suse 10.2 Computer Menu is gone

Hello,

I am having trouble with the lower left menu on Suse, the button is there but when clicked it shows nothing (just a tiny window with two white boxes).

Yesterday the update repo for Suse (http://download.suse.com/update/10.2/) started to give me troubles by giving me the error "cannot access installation media 20070727-071846 cd 1". I retry the process getting the same error and at one point it asked me to remove the repo, which I did.

Then I went to upgrade evolution mail and installed etherape. Pretty sure I didn't touch anything else, today when logging into my computer the first error I got was from gconf about the battery charge being below 0% (laptop user), then another one that clock applet couldnt be started and if I wanted to delete the applet (which I did not) and when desktop finished loading the menu failed to show up, again the computer button is there but no menu showing.

I am not sure what to do, I couldnt find much information on the web about it aside from something about updating gnome-menu, I went to yast via text and did a search for gnome-conf, when I click on it for an update it gave me a lot of errors of dependencies (I guessed probably wrong due to the update repo problems, I have both the gnome community and stable repos on yast sources).

So I am stuck and with no idea what to do next . Desktop works ok, but I am lost on running most of my apps from text, and I really wish to have that menu working properly again. If any previous forum addresses this problem, please let me know of any ideas would be great.

Thanks!

Just to add to the information, I tried to add the update repo again and kept getting the CD1 issue. But also I get this error:

"Refresh Failed: Failed to parse XML metadata: Can't add repository at http://ftp-linux.cc.gatech.edu/pub/s...e/update/10.2: Unknown Error: Downloading metadata failed (is YUM source?) or user did not accept remote source. Aborting refresh."

been trying to work around the problem the whole day, I uninstalled the gnome panel and installed again. I still can use Suse's "Computer Icon" menu, which I worked around by removing it and using the traditional Gnome menu bar, only problem is that no icons appear at all on the menu. The Gnome Icon is there with Applications, Places and System but inside the menu no icons whatsoever.

The update repo is not working for me at all, keeps giving me the same error, both in Yast and Smart.

Also, now everytime I log into the computer instead of getting the nice blue splash to log into the system from Suse, I get this old gray horrible splash screen in which takes forever to put my user name (it is really slow).

Been trying to find any info on the web, but nothing shows up. But, I will stick to the small success of at least getting the gnome menu bar running. The zen updater is basically broken, since it access the update repo which doesnt work, at least for me hehehe.

If anyone has any thoughts, let me know.
