Unhappy Suse 10.1 Installation Problem - Please Help

Suse 10.1 Installation Problem - Please Help

Hi - I am trying to install Suse 10.1 with the 5 Install CDs

I have Shuttle xpx SS51G
intel pentium4 1.6
256 Ram and a Avermedia TV Tuner

Boot to CD1 is fine - I get the completion of CD1 rpms
after competion of CD1, rather than going into CD2 my system wants to reboot.

If I reboot with CD1 in the computer it starts the intall process all over again

If I reboot with CD 2 it wants me to insert CD 1

If I try to boot off the hard drive I get isolinux Disk error 80 , AX 0201, drive 80

Any help would be greatly appreciated - This is my first Linux install and its been so frustrating!

Wink Try this:

Hi mkessel.

After you finish with CD 1, you must restart, as the installer asks. Then, you need to remove CD 1, and boot from HDD (remove CD, and wait until computer does something). Here the linux installer will continue a "few" seconds later. Good luck! It's great that you're trying to install linux. I hope you will enjoy linux and kde. Good luck again.

I also run Suse 10.1, and I can say that nothing of the sort happened to me, even though my computer was roughly the same hardware-wise.

My guess - corrupted CD-2. I assume you downloaded the ISO's? Check the Md5 sum of the second CD if you kept the ISO's. If not, redownload and try that CD again.

I promise, once you get the kink worked out, Suse is not half bad.

Question Not dowloaded ISOs I'm afraid

Not dowloaded ISOs I'm afraid

This Linux Set was purchased - came with the sleeves and everything

The error comes before I ever get to CD2 so I do not think it is that.

Do you think it can be something in the BIOS? Other than setting the Boot to HD option of course - maybe some other setting.

Do you have a shuttle too?
