Ok I am sorry if this has been posted before. I first out want to say several months ago I tried to use Redhat but after running into the whole Nvidia driver refuses to isntall because of soem issue with the kernel" error and spending a week on the ofrums tryign to figure it out I gave up switched to mandrake installed the nvidia drivers and the thign failed to boot retried the Redhat distro again without installign anything but installign the newest kernel and trying the nvidia driver again. So anyways besides Redhat and Mandrake is there any other suggestions? I was considering fedora even though its byt he redhat peopleMy roomates who are even more linux illiterate then me are going to try slackware but I heard thats not really for a noob and I I am sure I will be hearing a lot of cursing for the next few weeks.....Anyways I just want to know what othe rdistros have othe rpeople started out on?
I bought SuSE 9.0 Personal, and have been very happy with it so far (and I'm a total newbie). The only 'problems' I've had so far are:
a. The k3b cd writing program isn't working properly, but I have established there was an oversight with the compilation of the version that was shipped in the package - haven't done anything about sorting that out yet though.
b. My wireless adaptor (D-Link DWL 120) doesn't work out the box with this distro (and all the others too, I'm led to believe). Have been trying to sort that out, but so far without success.
