strange X problem

Here's the deal: I'm running Xfree86 4.4.0 and I installed the latest nvidia drivers for my GeForce 3 Ti200 yesterday. After making the changes to XF86Config, I started the X server as root and KDE ran just fine. However, when I ran 'startx' as a non-root user, I got the infamous "No screens found!" error. I am totally stumped by this since I know for a fact, that X runs with the existing settings in the config file(only as root though) . Isn't the same XF86Config file used by all users? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Did you load the "nvidia" driver module (as root or by your distribution's means of automatic module loading)? If you start X as root the module can be automatically loaded, but a regular user cannot load kernel modules.
