Starting udev......laptop locks out

Hi

Fresh installation of FC5, after the final reboot when it gets to the bootloader, it attempts to load FC5 as normal.

However it hangs when starting udev.......

I've traced it back to what I believe is a bug here but I do not have a network connection and am unsure of how yum works.

I've downloaded the updated pcmciautils-012-1.i386.rpm onto a USB hard disk, I just need help with knowing how to best update it. I'm assuming I boot into 'linux rescue', then is it a case of installing the *.rpm as normal i.e:

rpm -ivh pcmciautils-012-1.i386.rpm

from /mnt/usb? Does the sysimage then copy this to the installation?

Thanks

I'm not sure how rescue works in FC, but if it just boots you into a CD, once you are up you should be able to mount /dev/hd<x> then:

chroot mount/point rpm -ivh pcmciautils-012-1.i386.rpm. It's a fresh install so you don't have too much to lose right

(as if you can access the network, a net install of the most current packages should be your best option (If available in FC5)

The rescue in FC5 basically copies the installation into a temp location called /sys/image I think (or similar).

So logically, I'll need to:

mount /dev/usb

Then just run the *.rpm?

Thanks for the help, will give it a go tonight.
