ssh, long wait before able to enter password

When I try and setup a ssh connection after the username field it takes quite a long time before the password field pops up. How can I solve this?
Running a SLES 9 sp 2 box.

How do you setup the ssh connection? In the command line?
How long is the delay? In my experience, a delay of several seconds is not uncommon. It probably depends on the connection speed and the traffic on the remote machine.

Thanks for the quick reply.

After I posted this thread the site came with some similar threads. Including this one:

Made an entry for my client in the hosts file. Problem is gone. Wonder why ssh is searching for a hostname of the client though.
