Hey, this is definitely an easy question. I just know nothing.
Background: I installed Debian on my spare computer, everything went okay as far as i know. Only thing is I don't have a GUI, i just boot up to what looks like a command prompt. This isn't a huge problem, I do work on machines like this sometimes.
What i want: I want to install Gnome from my command prompt. I've figured out a few little steps.
-edit /etc/apt/sources.list to include the ftp site from which i'll install it
apt-get update
apt-get install gnome
Or some nonesence like that. My question is how exactly do i edit the sources.list?
Originally posted by grilledsalad So then all I have to do to install Gnome is the apt lines? Anything else?
You should just try it. If you don't have a line in sources.list describing correct location withgnome, you'll see an error message. But if you have chosen one of the mirrors from Debian list, it should be OK.
