Sound problems in RH9

I've been trying to get my sound configured for a good 3 hours now, but I am having difficulty doing so. I have a SoundBlaster Live! card and when I use the redhat-config-soundcard command i get the following error:
emu10k1: Device or resource busy
Please help, I have a bunch of things I want to listen to but no sound

I have also made sure that PnP is turned off since I have looked for this on other posts

first off, have you tried running a mixer program to check the volumes of all of your channels? Also, it would be helpful to see what modules you have loaded. su to root and show us what the results of your /sbin/lsmod.
