Sound Problem in Compaq 610 laptop with Ubuntu 10.04

Hi there
I have trying to figure out for the past two weeks why the internal speakers are not working with Ubuntu 10.04.

Have gone as far as upgrade alsa but gosh...! However, if i use external speakers, the sounds play very well.

I like ubuntu and i would not like to go back to windows..

Any one out there with a clue on how to resolve the sound issues on ubuntu 10.04 with laptop compaq 610?

Any advice will highly be appreciated

Do you have any idea what make/model your sound card is?
