Sound issues with every live linux except puppy and knoppix
Just wondering why Debian, openSUSE, fedora, and so many others have a problem with audio. Why can Puppy and Knoppix provide clear audio when the others cannot?
Thank you igadoter and boughtonp. I've wanted to install linux on a second hard drive but have been disappointed because of the sound issue. I will try Slackware and do some research on ALSA and Pulseaudio. Maybe I can remove Pulseaudio and default to ALSA. The referenced Puppy site looks interesting. Thanks again for you help.
Perhaps pulseaudio is mis-configured. The first thing is
Code:
$ pgrep pulse
if nothing shows run
Code:
$ pulseaudio --start
Most distributions nowadays play audio through pulseaudio. Personally I dislike it strongly. This is why I use Slackware Live. Firefox in Slackware Live can play audio without pulseaudio.
Code:
$ uname -a
Linux darkstar.home.arpa 5.10.22 #1 SMP Tue Mar 9 16:42:18 CST 2021 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3320M CPU @ 2.60GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
$ pgrep pulse
