sound distortion on headphones

Linux Mint - Rafaela: sound is ok on speakers, but distorted on headphones. Solutions? If it is of some importance: Laptop - Lenovo B5400 (i3 4000M).

Hi.

You are gonna have to read around a bit first... and rename it from "sound..."

E.g: http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/rules.html

Best wishes and have fun!

Debugging sound problems can be a nightmare with any operating system, as a quick search on the internet for your symptom shows. This thread indicates that the answer can be something that seems to be unconnected to sound:

You could try an update from 17.2 Rafaela to 17.3 Rosa.

Thanks jamison, any suggestions where this issue might fit best?

I think it's o.k. here as your first post, the moderators may move it accordingly but I don't think your title will help you much? You could change it to be more descriptive...

Have you tested other headphones or those ones elsewhere?

same "sound" on different headphones (four different types, so far). For a moment I considered the wires to be a problem, since it used to be ok until recently. Now I am thinking about checking the in-computer jack wires.

Good thought. As David and link seemed to be hinting could be hardware, do you have a live distro or other OS you can test it on?
