SOS: GUI Crashed in RH7.3

Dear Friend;

The problem is with the graphical mode login. I
can login with the text mode but not enter into graphical mode and the
monitor illuminates as if it is trying to enter into the GUI, but goes
black screen, and when I press 'eneter' several times, the textmode
login appears for some time and disappears. However after several
'enter's it gets displayed and I could login in text mode. It all
happened after a power failure in the middle of a running Linux
session.

Actually, the xfs server starts fine during booting, but when I try to
restart with "/etc.rc.d/init.d/xfs restart" command or "service xfs
restart", it says it fails and it seems impossible to kill.

I also tried by deleting the xfs.pid from /var/run directory and
rebooting and it has not worked too.

When I run XConfigurator, It was like this.

1) PCI Probe
PCI Entry: Intel Corp. | 82815 CGC (Chipset Graphics)
X Server: XF86_SVGA
XFree 4 driver: i810

2) Monitor Name : Philips 107S (//mine is 107S5)
Horizontor Sync. Rate: 30-71Khz
Vertical Sync. Rate: 50-160Khz

//when installing RH7.3 I selected default one something like
PHLe..., but there were two top and bottom horizontal black bands
displaying.

4) Video Memory : 16MB (default value)

5) Clock Chip : No clockship ... (recommended one)

6) Video Mode: 24bit 1024x768

7) Then it asked whether I could see the graphical screen, I pressed
yes/

8) Then it asked whether I want to reboot in graphical mode when I
reboot or press startx, I clicked on 'yes'

I rebooted and restarted the computer and login as root in the text
mode and given the command "startx" and it gave a series of error like
this (as visible on my screen, I don't know how to copy, newbie!):

(==) Log file "var/log/XFree86.0.log" Time and date
(==) Using config file "/etc/X11/XF85Config-4"

Fatal Server error:

9) Thereafter I mounted one of the Windows partition and copied the
following XFree86.0.log which reads:

10) Now please guide how to overcome the problem (actually such
problems and a tedious process to migrate to Linux has deviated me
from the process twice last time and this is the third time I am
trying). Currently I have RH7.3 installed on a PIII/1GHz machine with
256MB RAM.

Thanking you in anticipation,

Webocratically yours,
