Some essential KDE files were missing when I rebooted and I cannot open Discovery.

A bit of context: I'm a Mac refugee using Linux for a year. Love it! I'm running Kubuntu 20.04 on a Lenovo M95 tiny box (great little machine).

After shutting down the M95 for a week, when I rebooted I could not access the Discover program. Clicking on the system tray icon got "could not find the program plasm-discover".

I had cloned the whole internal SSD drive using Clonezilla onto an external hard drive before shutting down. When i used Dolphin, my file manager, to access "/usr/share/applications" on both drives, I found all 4 org.kde.discover files missing on the internal drive, but present on the clone. Mu girlfriend also uses Kubuntu 20.04 and the dicover files were there on her hard drive and her Discover program works. So the question is how can I copy the missing files from the cloned HD to the internal
HD? I tried a simple copy, but Dolphin wouldn't let me do this. I could just clone the external drive back onto my internal drive, but I'd rather not do that if there is another way to just replace the missing 4 files.
I have added "open as root" to the service menu of Dolphin, but I'm not surehow to actually to use it, and if that would work for copying the files.
Any suggestions would be very appreciated...

The link below explains how to use it although it would be much simpler to use the cp command from a terminal using sudo.

Wrong link?

OP, how about reinstalling discover or --fix-missing?

from the op, update on the problem

Thanks for all your suggestions.
Yancek, the link you posted didn't help.
Using the cp command as you suggested, I tried copying the 4 org.kde.discovery files from my backup drive to my internal drive. That worked, and the file permissions (root) were preserved. However when I rebooted the computer I still could not access the Discovery program. I got the "could not find the program plasma-discover" message again. Maybe there are other files associated with Discovery that also disappeared?
As a test, I also tried booting from my backup drive (which was cloned from my internal dive before I shut down a week ago). When I did that I still couldn't access the Discovery program. Any idea why that would be?
As a last resort, I'm thinking about using Clonzilla to copy the backup drive onto my internal drive. What do you think about that?

Before you do that, try reinstalling plasma-discover and all its dependencies.

ohnoho: I'd love to re-install plasma-discover AND all its dependencies! Please explain in detail just how to do that. I kind of know what dependencies are, bits of code that tell the OS things it needs to know, but I don't know to find out which ones discover uses, or how to get them. Any help would be much appreciated.
Sincerely, nukuinnz

Problem solved with that link. Many thanks
Of course I should have thought of using sudo apt-get to restore the program and its dependencies. I learned several new things in the process.
