sndconfig error messages

Hello All:

I used to have sound on my box and often enjoyed it.
However, while under the gun to finish a project I received an errot message regarding either my sound card or audio. LIke I said I was under the gun and promply disregarded it.
Well, I want my sound back, and have received the following error messages when running:
sndconfig

/lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/driver/sound/sb.o:
init_module: No such device
/lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/driver/sound/sb.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/driver/sound/sb.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/driver/sound/sb.o insmod
sound-slot-0 failed

Any relevant help greatly appreciated.
