Smoothwall & Directplay Games

Hi folks, I have a win2k machine, with directx8, connected to gateway machine running smoothwall.

I am trying to play Age of Empires 2 through this setup, but am unable to see/connect to games.

The MS page regarding this says to enable
udp ports 2300 - 2400
and tcp 6073
which I have done

btw, if you know a way to enter a range, this would be great, as i had to stubbornly enter them one at a time

so the ports are forwarded, and enabled (well the 'enabled' box is ticked)

but still nothing.

(the game connection works fine using a modem from the win2k machine)

if you have any ideas, please let me know,
thanks for your time.

Hi Mate,

I'm having this very same problem

A few things I noticed about your post though, you didn't say that you enabled external access as well, where by you will have to type in all those details again!

Also you are going by the DX8 requirements, AOE2 and AOE2 Conquerers expansion use DX7 - This is actually stated in the Knowledgebase article...

Ahh, just looked over the article again and realised what we are doing wrong! For DX7 you not only need to enable 2300-2400 UDP but TCP as well! Bah, that's another 200 ports I have to fill in - Now that is sloppy programing M$!!
