Sitecom 300N USB adaptor problem

Hi all

I am new to this forum and a bit green technically so let me explain my problem and hopefully somebody can set me right.
I use my company laptop at home using a belkin wireless router set up for me by our IT team. I use a cable connection.
I have good access to the internet via my laptop and successfully access company outlook etc. I also have a pc in my office upstairs where I have been using a Sitecom USB adaptor 54g WL 172 for wireless access. This pc is purely for my personal work and is not set up to access company business.
As the signal varies a lot and the adaptor is about 5 metres away from the router i have decided to upgrade to 300n Adaptor.

I have set this up using the same wep code used for my laptop and initially the adaptor recognizes my network, showing a strong signal. However once i try to connect the signal is lost and the only way of retrieving it is to reboot.

Where am I going wrong ?
The leaflet with the adaptor explains that set up is simple but I cannot make it operate properly.

Hopefully someone can help me

Many thanks in advance
