Shotwell crashes

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS 64 bit.
Recently, everytime I now run Shotwell (which I got from Ubuntu Software Center), it starts auto-importing photos, then abruptly crashes.

I've used it for a couple years w/no problems like that.

I tried today removing it and reinstalling it with same problem.

It's running into a file which it doesn't like. Someone had a similar problem a few years ago, just about the exact same description. They were originally concerned that a large count of files they had was their problem but I believe it came down to one or more files which the program didn't like. I think it tries to import video as well as still images. Maybe stop it from importing all at once or import a few files, not your whole library and see if you can get it working incrementally versus all at once.
