setting up telecomm in Fedora Core 2 modem not found

When the install of Fedora Core 2 went in, I noticed that it
actually removed information about my UR Robotics fax modem.

There was a message to the effect that Fedora will now remove
your modem stuff.

So when I went to begin setting up my dialout, I naturally got a
modem not found message.

My text says to use [$ wvdialconfig create] to find my modem
properties.

But I don't know how to do this.

Dude, where's my modem?

well, i think you should just enter "wvdialconfig create" at a command-prompt and hit "enter " .
( btw. maybe you should do that as "root" so "#" instead of "$" )

Ok. Once I give the command at the terminal what result
should I see and how do I check that my modem is now recognized by the Internet Wizard to proceed with the
install of Fedora Core2?

At that point I can continue with my text instructions.

There is just no followup info for the command in my
text which by Christopher Negus.

Modem is always on....

I had some success today.

I logged in as root.
Gave the wvdialconfig <username> command

There was a hint from an error message which prompted
to use the command wvdialconfig with username rather than
'create' which produced a command not founf in bash error.

Result was:

"found a modem on /dev/ttys0 <username> Warn: Can't
read config file <username>

then

Modem configuration written to <username>
ttys0 <info>: Speed 115200; init "ATQ V1 E1 S0=0 & C1 & D2 + Fclass=0" which is an init string for the modem.

Then I ran Internet Wizard which reported:

Profile Status Device Nickname Type
check Inactive PPP0 <username> Modem

At this box I clicked on the 'Activate button'

Result of this was:

"failed to activate device <username> with Error 2

I have not set up any needed TCP IP yet.

So that's where I am today.

I am not at the point of being able to dial out yet.
