Setting PATH Variable in Ubuntu


Hi everyone.
i installed java in my pc by running the following on the shell
./jdk-6u24-linux-i586.
i need to set the path to the bin directory and also a new environmental variable JAVA_HOME.
I need a little help here.

You can add to your $PATH in ~/.profile

edit the .bash_profile for your user, add these two lines -- replace "/path/to" with the absolute path to your jdk instance.

Code:
export PATH=$PATH:/path/to/jdk_1.6.0/bin
export JAVA_HOME=/path/to/jdk_1.6.0
