set up DSL thru SWITCH - winXp connected to SWITCH too


hi, help me please...

right now I am using win XP -> switch -> DSL modem to connect to my ISP

now i want to be able to use the internet with my FEDORA too at the same time. Linux box was able to recongnize eth (i think, i pinged several times succesfully "something" prolly the modem.)

any help would be useful.... thanks and I have no idea how to use PPPoE, is there a built in programme? i cant find it anywhere.

configure the eth card with DHCP. The little black box that your ISP gave you will tell your card what to be configured to.

ok so i did that... how do i check whether there is a network created? or if I'm connected to the internet? this windows box is currently online, do i have to use PPPoE to connect the linux to the internet?

Yes you need to use PPPoE to connect to the internet using the same username and password. I do not use Fedora but there probably is an internet configuration GUI.

Once connected looking at the output of /sbin/ifconfig will show ppp0 interface with a valid internet interface.

thanks people..

i can use the internet now.. it seems that i used the wrong thing.. should have used the xDSL !! lol

but now can somebody help me with transferring files from my windows box?

where is the network neighbourhood? step by step please
