Smile Server hung due to cpu soft lockup

Hello All,
Today my two servers (virtual machines installed on ESXi) became unresponsive and i did a manual reboot to bring them up.

Here are the server details,

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.5 (Santiago)

Linux prod-server 2.6.32-431.11.2.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP
**********************************************************

Also some logs from /var/log/messages,

kernel: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 69s! [DEP_25_DIA_W9:1707]

kernel: Modules linked in: nfs lockd fscache auth_rpcgss nfs_acl sunrpc ipv6 ppdev parport_pc parport microcode vmware_balloon vmxnet3 sg i2c_piix4 i2c_core shpchp ext4 jbd2 mbcache sd_mod crc_t10dif sr_mod cdrom vmw_pvscsi pata_acpi ata_generic ata_piix dm_mirror dm_region_hash dm_log dm_mod [last unloaded: scsi_wait_scan]

kernel: Pid: 9614, comm: lsb_release Not tainted 2.6.32-431.11.2.el6.x86_64 #1 VMware, Inc. VMware Virtual Platform/440BX Desktop Reference Platform

kernel: Call Trace:
***********************************************************

Do anyone have any idea on how to debug and fix this?

Thanks.

This is going to sound really dumb but do you have the latest VM Tools installed. I had a few oddities recently with RHEL on my VMWare environment and did a tools upgrade and that seems to have fixed the issue.

While this isn't helpful here is a KB from vmware. http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/mic...rnalId=1009996

Also See this RHEL Bug Trackers.

Solved?

Just wondering if anyone solved this issue? I just started to see the same messages (quite a lot actually) on a fairly new RHEL 6.5 2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Sun Nov 10 22:19:54 EST 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux system running under VMWare ... When it happens the whole system (or so it seems) slows down and gets totally unresponsive.. UGH!

TIA!

/Steve
