Serial, /dev/ttyS0 the data is coming in but I can't see it..

Hi,

When I run "cat /dev/ttyS0" (serial) on one terminal, and then try "echo helo > /dev/ttyS0" from another terminal, i get no output from the first terminal.

However when i do this: "cat /proc/tty/driver/serial" I can see the data coming in on TX... any ideas what is wrong or where i can start looking? It just seems like /dev/ttyS0 is not working.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Why not run a terminal that supports serial interfaces? There are many. That would resolve the issue for you.

I am running Gnome terminal and it didn't work, I would have thought this worked with serial. I also tried the actual bash console (outside of xwindow) and it didn't work either.. surely that supports serial. I think it is another issue..
