sending uuencode attachment in postfix mailx in linux

we are migrating hp ux to linux box. we have lot script which are using uuencode to send attachment file in mailx , like uuencode a.file a.file|mailx -s subject Though these were working in unix but not in linux attachmnts are coming as inline text in body.
i know that in postfix mailx i can send attachment with option -a. but this requires to change all the scripts. is there any alternative like config changes in main.rc or mail.rc to get uuenode atachment worked in linux as well.
