sending uuencode attachment in postfix mailx in linux

Hi,
we are migrating hp ux to linux box. we have lot script which are using uuencode to send attachment file in mailx , like uuencode a.file a.file|mailx -s subject abc@email.com. Though these were working in unix but not in linux.in linux attachmnts are coming as inline text in body.
i know that in postfix mailx i can send attachment with option -a. but this requires to change all the scripts. is there any alternative like config changes in main.rc or mail.rc to get uuenode atachment worked in linux as well.
